Nothing but Night

A new record from MAbH (Peter Taylor) drops today on Bandcamp. The CD consists of seven tracks of creeping musique concrète and noise that maximise loops made via scratched and sculpted old vinyl. ‘Goosegog Choir’ contains the first vocal duet between father and daughter; as Peter Taylor and his daughter Eleanor (11 years old) interact with playful vocal experiments creating something both unsettling and playful.

The record is a search for sound in dust via the detournement of many charity shop LPs. The joy of crate-digging was only recently viable due to restrictions facing the UK during the pandemic. Once allowed, Taylor was let loose to find a wealth of sounds to use and abuse. Live improv is prominent throughout, as it is in most MAbH records; adding some organic elements to the warped plastic noises within.

Although starkly different in approach, ‘Nothing but Night’ is a companion piece to ‘Love: is a deformity’. Both of which are planned for a joint cassette release in the distant future. For now, you can enjoy this extremely limited art edition CD, handmade by the artist.
